Jambo! Karibu!
Hello! Welcome!

After organizing three National Science Teachers' Association-sponsored workshops to Ecuador’s Andes, Amazon, and Galapagos in the mid-1980s, I set my sights on Kenya in order to witness the summer migratory spectacle, the geological wonders of the Great Rift Valley, and to experience a different set of cultures from what I'd seen in South America.

So, following previously successful models of promotion, preparation, and communication, I set up three trips to Kenya in Summer 1987, 89, and 95. My spouse Marty and cousin Conni Migliaccio came with me in 1987; my sister Sally accompanied me in 1989, and both Marty and our nine-year old daughter Lisa came with me in 1995 along with her honorary Aunt Gail Hawks – a cherished colleague, Endowed Teaching Chair / Professor and friend of mine from Miami Dade College. It was also wonderful to have some of my Ecuadorian workshop participants with us in Kenya on each of the safaris.

Each of the three workshops had a slightly different itinerary so that I could see different parts of Kenya each time. This collection of galleries chronicles those trips, follows the approximate sequence of the places we visited, and provides brief descriptions of the places we visited.

These photographs were made with Konica FT and FS-1 35mm film cameras on Fujichrome 50, 100 and 400 ASA slide films. Lenses ranged from 15mm fisheye to 400mm. Slides were scanned and then digitally reprocessed in Photoshop or Silver Efex.
