Vienna is the capital of Austria and is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. Originally a Roman army camp during the 1st Century, by the 11th Century, it was an important trade hub - a characteristic that remains to this day. During the 18th Century, it was the seat of the Hapsburg Empire and later the Austro-Hungarian empire. It is culturally rich, ethnically diverse, and a photographer's delight. Old and new; traditional, modern, and cutting edge all exist side side in a fascinating mixture. It's one of my favorite cities despite the fact that on each of my six visits at the end of our Global Citizenship Seminar, I only had one day to explore and make images.
