The Untersberg is a 1,937m limestone massif of the Berchtesgaden Alps about 16km south of Salzburg's city center. While there are many hiking trails to the summit, many visits ride up on the Untersbergbahn cable car.

The fine-grained and dense limestone from the Untersberg was quarried for the facade of the Salzburg Cathedral. The German side of the mountain was featured in The Sound of Music movie.
